In the poem "Caged Bird," the bird can relate to Melinda. In the poem, the bird was in a cage, he couldn't do much. In the same way, Melinda is trapped in shame. Because of this, she is scared to do many things.
In Mrs.Martin's class, we read the story "Speak." Honestly, I liked the book. One thing it shows, is how people can express themselves. Many people speak, but few are heard, where some people do graffiti, sing, dance, or even write on the bathroom walls and draw such as Melinda did. These acts are very hard to ignore and it was in these forms of communication, she was heard.

Some teens may want to commit suicide because they might be bullied. Some might want to because they just don't fit in. Others, its because of who they hang around. They could also be depressed because maybe someone in their family died or they just have family issues.

Alienation

In this story, Malinda is alienated and wants to commit suicide. Personally, I don't feel alienated, but I'm sure a few of my friends do. The main reason is probably because they are just different. They are they're own person and real about it. None of them want to commit suicide that i know of.
